Vehicle manufacturers face pressure to make batteries faster, lighter, and cheaper, and that also operate in harsh conditions. TE works with customers to develop solutions for lithium-ion battery systems that are lightweight and compact, reliable, and cost-effective.
Creating Greener Vehicles. Automakers are investing in hybrid electric vehicles specifically because we know we need a sustainable energy source and less dependence on fossil fuels and oils. One of the key technology in these hybrid and electric vehicles is definitely the battery.
Faster, cheaper, lighter. The battery is the big cost driver on the business side and also the size and the weight. So really the key to the whole technology here and in unlocking that is really to make faster and cheaper and lighter batteries.
An Innovative Plug-and-Play Solution. So some of the connectivity issues that we see in these lithium ion batteries is putting many of these cells together in a very harsh automotive environment. So one of our advantages of our TE connector system is what like what we use on the HVA 280 product and what we have done is made a standard terminal and connection with a whole bunch of configurations so that you can plug-and-play any type of connector with any type of header but they all fit together and that gives our customers the flexibility to design their high voltage systems.
Solving the challenge. So our customers usually come to us with a specific problem or challenge that they need to solve in the connectivity of these battery systems. So it’s very important that we get together share the ideas and the technologies. And TE as such a wide range of industry experience that we can bring that expertise in engineering into that problem and now it’s a matter of taking that high voltage experience and placing it into the automobile so our engineers in automotive know a lot about the environment and the harshness of that environment and our engineers have dealt in industry and high-voltage systems can bring that knowledge together and provide a complete solution to our customers.
Changing the game. So it’s these types of battery connect solutions that TE provides that are really going to unlock this next-generation of hybrid electric vehicles and we need this technology both for our sustainability and make a greener better environment and I think it’s these technologies making the battery lighter and cheaper that are really going to propel this industry going forward.
